Programme Five
One Froggy Evening A Merrie Melodie released in 1955.
Directed by Chuck Jones and said to be his favourite.
J. Michigan Frog is a singing frog but will only perform
when no-one else is present.

Clipperty Clobbered A Looney Tune released in 1966,
starring the Roadrunner and Wile E Coyote.

Raison d’Etre (1988) Directed by Jerry Hibbert and
animated by Paul Crane this commercial tells how dried
fruit and nuts travel from tree to table. The animated
sequences link pieces of live action film but use only
the fruit and nuts that are being advertised.

Programme Six
The Hedgehog In The Fog Just in case you thought
everything in cartoons came from America, here was a
beautiful piece of Russian animation made in 1975 by Yuri
Norstin.

The Old Mill A Walt Disney classic that won an Oscar in
1937. It demonstrates the techniques made possible by
the development of the multiplane camera. Also in this
programme was a clip where Walt Disney himself
explained how the multiplane camera worked.

Programme Seven
Mickey's Polo Team Walt Disney enjoyed
playing Polo with all the movie stars and so
thought it would be good to get Mickey and
Donald to play too.
Chili Weather A Merrie Melodie released in
August 1963. Sylvester as a guard cat chases
Speedy Gonzales all over a food processing
factory.
Also in this show we looked at the photographs
of Edward Muybridge. He took lots of
photographs of horses to prove that at some
point all four hooves come off the ground
when the horse runs. Now these
photographs are used by animators
to study animal movement.

Well Done Workshoppers!
Fancy joining the Workshop in
Roll`s Cartoon Club?
Here’s how.
Workshoppers actually spend
about a week working with Wendy
Keay-Bright our Animation Tutor,
and Rolf at our studios in Bristol.
During that time there's plenty to
do, preparing work ready for the
linetester or ready for the record-
ing in the studio.

lt’s hard work so we need people
with lots of enthusiasm! Over the
next few months we’ll be looking
for new Workshoppers to join Rolf
on the second series. All Club
Members, aged between 7 and 14,
are eligible. lf you'd like to be
considered write to us, and send
us a Rolf's Roller or a drawing. In
your letter you should let us know
WHO you are, WHERE you live,
WHAT your telephone number is
and HOW old you are. Mark your
envelope WORKSHOP and send it
to our usual address.

Do remember though, there are
lots of members and not very
many places in the workshop. But
don't be too disappointed if you
don't get chosen - we could still
use your drawings on the show or
in the newsletter.
